A call is being made for government to reconsider its changes being made to the GATE program.
Following this morning’s announcement of reductions to the program, Tabaquite MP Anita Haynes says the state is limiting investment in citizens.
In particular, she believes government should revise its decision to cease all funding for post-graduate programme.
Ms Haynes says tertiary education has become mandatory for many entry-level positions and access to higher education is important in being competitive in an increasingly demanding job market.
She admits that there is a need to restructure GATE but notes that changes must not hurt or hamper students.
