Suspected Venezuelan gang leader in court today on child trafficking charges

Child trafficking charges have been laid against a suspected Venezuelan gang leader, who is due to appear in the Chaguanas Magistrates’ Court today.

According to Acting Police Commissioner, McDonald Jacob, the breakthrough came after a “painstaking” two year investigation.

The accused was one of four Venezuelans intercepted in Santa Flora on September 30th with a firearm, ammunition and contraband in their possession.

Following his arrest, he was handed over to the Special 2 Investigations Task Force, which conducted investigations into alleged crimes of human trafficking.

The man was then charged with Trafficking in Children, Causing a Child to Become a Prostitute, Transporting a Person for Prostitution and Being a Gang Leader.
