State unable to renegotiate Desalcott contract

The government is unable to renegotiate a contract with Desalcott for the provision of desalinated water until the year 2036.

That’s according to Attorney General Faris Al Rawi, who today responded to a question from Opposition MP regarding a US$100 million loan taken by the Government to repay debts to Desalcott.

During a meeting of the Standing Finance Committee of Parliament says this was negotiated under the UNC government.

The AG says the monies borrowed will also be used to pay for Desalcott’s water in 2020.
