State ordered to pay landlord $1.5M in unpaid rent

The State has been ordered to pay a La Romaine landlord $1.5 million for unpaid rent.

According to the Newsday, Azim Ishmael leased his building to the Education Ministry in 2012 and did substantial customization work at its request.

Yesterday, a Master of the High Court ordered the State to make the payment for June 2012 to June 2015.

Judgment in Ishmael’s favour was granted by Justice Carol Gobin in February 2017, after the State failed to comply with the court’s orders.

She also ordered damages to be assessed by a Master of the High Court.
