A Hurricane Watch is in effect for Barbados as well as St. Vincent and the Grenadines as Tropical Storm Gonzalo approaches, and is forecast to become a Hurricane today.
At 11am, Gonzalo was 1425km east of the islands, carrying maximum sustained winds of 100km/h.
On the forecast track, the center of Gonzalo will approach the islands Friday night and move across on Saturday.
The National Hurricane Centre says additional watches or warnings for other islands will likely be required later today.
The T&T Met Service has not issued any watches or warnings for Trinidad and Tobago.
However, the NHC says Gonzalo is expected to produce total rainfall accumulations of 1 to 2 inches in Trinidad and Tobago.
For Barbados, rain accumulations are expected to be between 2 to 5 inches with isolated maximum amounts of 7 inches.
The NHC adds that rainfall in Barbados and the Windward Islands could lead to life-threatening flash floods.
