Roget calls for a review of rejected refinery proposal

OWTU President General Ancel Roget has not given up hope on a deal to allow Patriotic Energies Company Ltd to acquire the Pointe-a-Pierre refinery.

Yesterday, Energy Minister Franklin Khan announced that Government had rejected the company’s final proposal, as it failed to address three key issues: purchase price financing, restart financing and first priority lien on the assets.

Mr Roget responded during a media conference today, recounting the entire process, from the annoucement of Patriotic as the perferred bidder, to the current day.

He also believes that Government could not have properly scrutinized the proposal given the short space of time.

As such, he is calling for the Cabinet-appointed evaluation team that reviewed Patriotic’s initial proposal, to be called back in to review the company’s latest submission.

Mr Roget also insisted that nowhere did Patriotic state or imply that what was submitted was a final proposal.
