Robbery suspect wounded, another arrested


    One suspect was wounded and another arrested, following a robbery in Princes Town yesterday.

    Around 5:15pm, two men, one armed with a gun, entered a supermarket on Edward Street and announced a hold-up.

    The proprietor handed over a quantity of cash, however an off-duty police officer who was in the supermarket at the time of the incident, got into a struggle with one of the suspects.

    The gunman allegedly fired a shot, prompting the officer to return fire with his licensed firearm.

    The assailants escaped in a green Nissan Almera and despite the officer shooting at the vehicle and damaging the rear windshield.

    A short while later, officers at the Princes Town Police Station received information that a man was seen lying unresponsive on the road way in Dyers Village with an apparent gunshot wound.

    A green Nissan Almera with a damaged rear windshield was also parked on the side of the road.

    The injured man, a 28-year old of Barrackpore, was taken to the San Fernando General Hospital for treatment.

    A 30-year-old Penal man was also subsequently detained.
