Clarence Rambharat has been selected as the PNM’s candidate for Chaguanas East in next year’s General Election.
The PNM says Rambharat was the lone nominee, having received nominations from all of the party groups in the constituency, and gained favour of the party’s screening committee yesterday.
Rambharat, who is the current Minister of Agriculture, is the 2nd person to be selected by the PNM for the 2020 General Election.
He previously contested the Mayaro seat in the 2015 polls but was unsuccessful.
Speaking at a PNM meeting in Chaguanas two months ago, Rambharat had announced that he had intentions of being the next representative for the constituency, since he had moved from Rio Claro/Mayaro to Chaguanas East.
The PNM also screened nominees for the Electoral District within the Chaguanas Borough Corporation yesterday, ahead of the upcoming Local Government Election.
The party’s screening exercise will continue in Malabar on Monday where nominees for the Arima Borough Corporation will be screened, along with new nominees for the outstanding Electoral Districts of the Sangre Grande Regional Corporation.
Meanwhile on Tuesday, screening is carded to take place at Balisier House for the Port of Spain City Corporation, and also for prospective candidates for the Barataria/San Juan constituency for the 2020 General Election.
