Rains lead to water disruption in North Trinidad

Consistent rainfall over the past couple of days has disrupted operations at several of WASA’s Water Treatment Plants in North Trinidad.

The company says turbid river conditions and clogged intakes have impacted production, and while some facilities have been restarted, several remain out of operation.

They are the Tompire, Sans Souci, Matura, Quare and Guanapo plants.

Areas affected as a result include: Toco, Matura, Salybia, Valencia and parts of Arima.

WASA says the affected facilities are expected to return to service when conditions normalize at the various locations.

Given the situation, it is urging persons to manage their water use efficiently, as it may take up to 24 hours after restoration, for their scheduled pipe borne supply to return.

It also assures that the water currently being supplied through its distribution system complies with the Guidelines for Drinking Water Quality of the World Health Organisation.
