Prisons Commissioner defends comment about corrupt officers

Prisons Commissioner Gerard Wilson is defending comments made recently about the influence of some prisoners on prison officers.

During a TV morning talk show, Mr Wilson speculated that some officers gave in to the demands of some inmates based on threats.

Shortly after, a voice-note began circulating, one which Mr Wilson believes took his comment out of context.

An irate Mr Wilson also insisted that measures were being taken to address the problem of officers smuggling contraband into prisons.

Mr Wilson was speaking today during an interactive Facebook Live session called “Conversations with the Commissioner”.
