A 38 year old prison officer was gunned down in drive-by shooting in Siparia yesterday, in the presence of his young child.
According to reports, Nigel Michael Jones and his three year old daughter were standing along High Street around 2:35pm, when a car pulled alongside them.
Shots were fired and lifeless body of Officer Jones was seen lying on the ground, while the child ran off screaming.
She was not injured.
The incident is under investigation.
Commissioner of Prisons, Dennis Pulchan, has once again, condemned the brazen actions of criminal elements, lamenting that his hard working officers are being killed for doing their jobs.
He added that measures must be revisited and enforced to treat with these brutal acts, saying he hopes that Law Enforcement Agencies leave no stone unturned in bringing these cold blooded murderers to justice.
He is also reminding all staff members to be extremely vigilant and cautious, particularly when off duty.
Officer Jones was a member of the Prison Service for just over 4 years and worked at the Maximum Security Prison.
The murder comes just a few days after another prison officer, Trevor Serette, was also killed.
