Nicholas Pooran has relinquished captaincy of the West Indies white ball teams.

According to Cricket West Indies, Pooran says he has given captaincy a “great deal of thought” since the team’s early T20 World Cup exit.

West Indies were knocked out of the World Cup in the first round after losses to lower ranked Scotland and Ireland.

Pooran says he wants to give CWI enough time to prepare for upcoming white ball matches in March.

He insists though that this move is not him giving up as he remains fully committed to West Indies cricket and is looking forward to providing services as a senior player in a supportive role.

The West Indies men’s next white ball series is against South Africa in March 2023 and consists of three ODIs and three T20Is.
