For 2022, police have issued over 7,000 speeding tickets and over 3,000 tickets for using or holding a phone while driving.
Also, so far for the year, there has been an increase in road traffic deaths – 62 this year compared with 50 for the same period in 2021.
These statistics have been revealed following the deaths of two persons in separate incidents in the past week – a cyclist and a motorcyclist.
Police are urging drivers to pay attention on the roads, obey speed limits and reduce speed around these types of road users or pedestrians.
Meanwhile, motorcyclists are being urged to pay attention to their speeds, particularly at night when it may be more difficult to observe substances on the roads which can cause a loss of control.
