Despite reductions in fatal road traffic accidents and deaths in 2018, police are disturbed by a spike in cyclist fatalities.

Overall, road deaths dropped by 8% while there were 5% fewer accidents.

However, according to Acting ASP Kissoon Badloo of the Traffic & Highway Patrol Branch, 6 more cyclists died in 2018 compared to last year.

According to reports, the 8th cyclist death was that of 40 year old Aaron Thomas who was hit on the highway near the Cumuto traffic lights.

Earlier in the year, Jaffa chef Joe Brown and BP employee Joanna Banks died after a car ran into a group of cyclists along the Beetham Highway.
