Police officer among 2 held for $680k robbery

A Police Constable is one of two persons charged with a $680,000 robbery.

Around 6:15pm on October 3rd, a courier for a clothing store outlet was reportedly stopped by two men dressed in police uniforms, who appeared to be conducting a roadblock along the Western Main Road in Cocorite, near Paragon Sports Club.

A marked police vehicle was also on site.

The man was asked to exit his vehicle after which he was tie-strapped and robbed of personal items, including a cell-phone valued $1,500, US$120, and TT$ 1,200.

He was also robbed of TT$677,277, and US$1,500, both of which belonged to his employers.

One suspect reportedly drove away in the marked police vehicle while the second escaped through a bushy track.

A report was made and after a series of intelligence-based exercises and extensive enquiries, the two suspects were detained.

Both have been charged with robbery with aggravation, while the officer has also been charged with misbehaviour in public office.
