Reports of weddings with hundreds of persons in attendance and virtual carnival fetes being planned to turn into mass gatherings have the attention of the TTPS.
This is according to Police Commissioner Gary Griffith who, in a media release, says enforcement of the public health regulation is not meant to frustrate citizens.
He says the TTPS has no issue with smaller weddings and warns that “the higher the numbers, the higher the risk.”
Turning to virtual events, Mr Griffith notes that these events can and would be abused by some with regulations being breached.
He says using private premises to host a virtual event but having persons pay a fee or “bring a bottle” would turn it into a fete and thus, a public place.
Mr Griffith warns, police will act accordingly and is urging persons to refrain from this practice.
