PNM MP condemned after urging supporters to “ward off evil spirits”

A statement linking the UNC to evil spirits has caught the attention of the Council for Responsible Political Behaviour.

Chairman Dr Bishnu Ragoonath today sent out a media release, in response to PNM MP Camille Robinson Regis’ comments at the party’s public meeting in La Horquetta last Friday.

She urged supporters to ward off evil in a statement the council considers to be outside of expected norms.

Dr Ragoonath says her comments seem to be designed to encourage behaviour that could reinforce divisions that are part of T&T’s political culture.

He urges party officials, supporters and the general public to ensure that the highest ethical standards are maintained as the election campaign reaches its climax.
