PMO: COVID-19 community cases may increase and impact “ramped up” repatriations

Relaxations to COVID-19 measures may lead to an increase in community cases according to a health expert who says this will be considered in the repatriation of T&T nationals.

Principal Medical Officer, Dr Maryam Abdool-Richards, at this morning’s Health Ministry media briefing, claims the granting of exemptions have been “ramped up”.

She says approximately 300 persons are being granted exemptions every 10 days and, currently, 10% of repatriates test COVID-positive.

However, Dr Abdool-Richards says several factors impact on how many persons are accommodated in the parallel health system.

Meanwhile, Dr Richards says more repatriates are expected this week.
