PM talks with OWTU on restructuring Petrotrin

Restructuring of Petrotrin was among several matters discussed when Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley met with representatives from the Oilfield Workers’ Trade Union (OWTU) yesterday.

According to the Office of the PM, the meeting was a cordial one where Dr Rowley reiterated his commitment regarding the refinery at Point-a-Pierre, which he first indicated in a letter to the union, a month ago.

In that letter, the PM stated that if the union presents an acceptable business proposal, Government would consider it.

Dr Rowley also indicated that he was looking forward to receiving the OWTU’s plan and reminded them that the company would issue a Request for Proposals sometime in the near future.

Talks were also held on the subject of retirees, casual and temporary workers as well as Dr Rowley’s announcement on Monday about the availability of land for former Petrotrin workers.
