PM: CARICOM asks UN to host Venezuelan officials to “thrash out” political issues

T&T and CARICOM have suggested that the United Nations host Venezuelan authorities for dialogue on their political tension.

Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley was in the US where CARICOM met with the UN’s Secretary General – during this time he explained the non-interference stance taken by T&T and its Caribbean neighbours.

On his return today, he said they asked the UN to make itself available to host the discourse, with the aim of lessening tensions.

Dr Rowley says CARICOM managed to garner sympathy and change the minds of several countries after explaining the risk T&T faces if tensions in Venezuela do not subside.

On the opposition UNC’s recognition of Juan Guaido as interim Venezuelan President, Dr Rowley is disappointed.
