PAHO trying to bring down vaccine cost for Latin America & Caribbean

PAHO is negotiating to bring down the cost of the COVID-19 vaccine for Latin America and the Caribbean.

T&T however is assured of a supply, as it is a part of the COVAX Facility, which saw countries collaborate to accelerate the development, production, and equitable access to tests, treatments, and vaccines for the virus.

During today’s Health Briefing, PAHO/WHO Representative Dr Erica Wheeler was asked the question of “when?” as it relates to the vaccine.

According to her, there’s the matter of cost and readiness.

Thus far, the Pfizer vaccine is the only one to have been approved in any country – it was given the green light in the UK.

There are however other vaccines that may also soon gain approval for use.

Over the weekend, Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh expressed the hope that tenders will go out soon for the construction of chillers at the Couva Hospital for vaccine storage.
