More than 100 persons were arrested over a 36-hour period, as the Police Service beefed up operations in response to an uptick in the crime rate in the past week.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Jayson Forde gave these statistics during a joint press conference with the National Security Minister and Chief of Defence Staff Air Commodore Darryl Daniel, today.
ACP Forde says the ramped up exercises are part of the TTPS’ efforts to get guns, the weapon of choice for criminals, off the streets.
In fact, he says over 25 firearms were seized and these include high-powered rifles.
ACP Forde has given the assurance that they are working to deal with the gang situation but he says he cannot give specific information on what is being done.
