Opposition: “October Revolution” will be peaceful

Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar says her promised “October Revolution” is a peaceful move based on the rule of law and adherence to democratic constitutional principles.

She provided this explanation in a media release issued today, in which she also again condemned yesterday’s Parliamentary sitting as “a travesty of justice”.

During the session, the Electoral College voted against the establishment of a tribunal to investigate the removal of President Paula-Mae Weekes.

The Opposition was left upset by a number of issues, including the decision to not have debate before the vote.

When she spoke to the media afterward, Mrs Persad-Bissessar declared the start of an “October Revolution” as she criticized the Prime Minister and Speaker of the House.

In today’s release, she insisted that the peaceful “Revolution” is aimed at ending the “perceived divine right of those who see themselves as Emperors who are above the law”.

She also again accused the Prime Minister of being responsible for the scandalous collapse of the Police Service Commission.
