Opposition Leader’s attorneys threaten court action; want apology from Health Minister

Attorneys for the Opposition Leader have issued a pre-action protocol letter to the Health Minister over his H1N1 allegations.

During a PNM meeting on Tuesday 5th November in Tunapuna, the Minister claimed Mrs Kamla Persad-Bissessar instructed officials to hide flu mortality stats for 2013 to 2015.

However, UNC in a media release calls these accusations wholly untrue and a deliberate malicious attack.

The attorneys, citing slander and libel, want Minister Terrence Deyalsingh to:

    • Issue and publish an apology
    • Cease and desist from repeating these allegations or any similar allegation
    • Propose a sum of money as compensation for distress caused and injury to Mrs Persad-Bissessar’s reputation.

The Minister has been given seven days to respond and if he fails to do so, the attorneys say they will go to the High Court.
