Withdraw the property tax because now is not the time – that’s the plea of the Opposition Leader who responded to the 2023 budget in Parliament today.

Mrs Kamla Persad-Bissessar reiterated in her contribution that the budget is an attack on the poor and working class and does not offer any hope that government has a plan.

Specifically on property tax, she reminded Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley of a 2009 statement he made about such a fiscal measure.

In the budget presentation on Monday, Finance Minister Colm Imbert said government is on track to begin collecting property tax in fiscal 2023.
