Opposition Leader responds to Standard and Poors rating

The Opposition Leader believes Standard and Poors’ BBB- rating for T&T is one notch above what she deems “official junk status.”

In a media release, Mrs Kamla Persad-Bissessar says the rating affirms the nature of T&T’s economy which she calls anaemic.

She says the S&P economic indicators highlight that downgrades started three years before the COVID-19 pandemic from A- to BB+ in April 2017.

She warns that economic alarm bells are ringing and warns that there is a “one in three” chance for a further downgrade within 12-24 months.
