Opposition Leader pays tribute to former CJ Clinton Angelo Bernard


    Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar has paid tribute to former Chief Justice, who passed away on Saturday.

    He was 89 years old.

    Mr Bernard served as CJ from 1985 to 1995, and was remembered by Mrs Persad-Bissessar as someone dedicated to improving the judicial system.

    According to her, during his tenure he successfully introduced many reforms, including adjustments to judges’ pensions and benefits.

    Mr Bernard was a respected figure and received the Trinity Cross in 1986 for his service to the country.

    His death comes just weeks after the passing of another former Chief Justice, Sat Sharma.
