Opposition Leader concerned about gas move

The Opposition Leader says “cartels” could be created by the Government’s intention to remove fixed retail margins for all liquid petroleum products.

She is also questioning the announcement that all NP gas stations will be sold to private ownership.

She raised the alarm over these two announcements as she spoke to the media shortly after the presentation of the 2021 Budget.

The Opposition Leader also criticized the $50 million allocation to provide laptops for students in need, saying it is simply not enough.

Mrs Persad-Bissessar says it is “totally unacceptable” that the Government would choose to go ahead with the property tax, despite the economic impact of COVID-19.

She also dismissed the budget as being “the usual” which is not good considering the current situation.
