Opposition Leader Kamla Persad Bissessar says the establishment of a Commission of Enquiry to probe land acquisition for the highway extension project to Point Fortin is nothing more than a distraction.
This statement comes on the heels of an announcement made by Government Minister Stuart Young yesterday.
She believes it is just a diversion from Standard and Poor’s recent downgrade of T&T’s credit rating from BBB+ to BBB.
Mrs Persad Bissessar says Government should instead be looking to deal with the issues that have been identified in S&P’s report.
These include provision of reliable and current economic data, strengthening of revenue collection institutions and adopting policies to stimulate economic growth.
Additionally, the Opposition leader says the administration should be investigating several matters for possible corruption.
She outlined a few including the A&V Drilling fake oil scandal and multi-million dollar rental contracts for the Attorney General’s family.
