Opposition Leader calls for investigation into Darryl Smith matter

Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar is calling for an urgent and immediate investigation into the facts and circumstances of the Darryl Smith matter.

In fact, she says she has written to the Police Commissioner, Director of Public Prosecutions and Chairman of the Integrity Commission, stating that there are strong grounds for suspecting that several criminal offences may have been committed as well as a possible breach of the Integrity in Public Life Act and the Code of Conduct.

Mrs Persad-Bissessar points out that the Report of the Committee appointed to investigate the allegations of sexual harassment was hidden from public scrutiny.

She also accused the Prime Minister of remaining silent until the controversy was brought in the public domain by the media.
