Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar says the resignation of the Procurement Regulation Board’s Deputy Chairman shows that the recently passed bill is not good.
And she is again calling on the Government to immediately withdraw it so that its “teeth” can be returned.
Amendments to the Procurement Act last year have been widely criticized as rendering it useless and ineffective.
According to reports, the resignation letter from James Chan Kit said his decision was due to the “final emasculation” of the law, and Government’s “reluctance for proper procurement oversight”.
During a virtual meeting last evening, Mrs Persad-Bissessar hailed Mr Chan Kit as being a true patriot and called on the Government to heed of his comments on the matter.
She adds that this will be a starting point if they are serious about fighting white collar crime.
