“Unimaginably shameful” is how Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar described a recent post by the Office of the Prime Minister on its Facebook page.
The post, which has since been deleted, referred to the recent drowning death of several Venezuelans.
It accused “agents of the OAS, our Opposition and other Trinidadian and Venezuelan imps” of “pushing a narrative that these illegals and their criminal traffickers reached Trinidad but our Authorities here turned them back and that is why they drowned…”
Mrs Persad-Bissessar pointed to the comment about the OAS in particular, saying it was an international organisation that has long been a key ally to T&T.
She also accused the Prime Minister of spewing hate, malice and confusion instead of displaying leadership on this serious issue.
She warned that the current refugee crisis is not going to disappear anytime soon and required “decisive, clear, and sane leadership”.
