The Opposition Leader has slammed the decision to implement a 50 dose cap at COVID-19 vaccination centres.

In a release Mrs Kamla Persad-Bissessar says following yesterday’s crowds, the Health Minister apologized and announced the new alphabetical system.

She says he also gave the impression that elderly persons with the surnames A-E can visit a health centre today for a shot.

Mrs Persad-Bissessar maintains that at no time did the Minister indicate that only 50 jabs would be available per centre for the day.

She believes the arrangement is cruel, since a number of elderly persons stood in lines for two and three hours today, only to be told that there is a limit on vaccines.

A call has since been made for the Prime Minister to “rein in his Minister and take control of the Health Ministry himself or replace him with someone who is competent”.
