One man appears in court charged with ‘Sandman’ murder

One man has appeared in court charged with the murder of Vaughn “Sandman” Mieres, his wife and two of his bodyguards.

According to Trinidad Express, Durell Raymond appeared today before Magistrate Sarah Da Silva, charged with murder, possession of a firearm and ammunition, and not being the holder of a Firearm Users’ Licence.

He was not called upon to plead as all of the charges were laid indictably.

He was remanded into custody and will reappear in court on August 29th.

46-year-old Mieres, his 50-year-old wife Alita Dehere,  36-year-old Nigel Octave and 25-year-old Kadir Joseph were killed at Mieres’ Las Cuevas home on July 25th, when gunmen entered and shot them about their bodies.

Raymond was arrested on the day of the murder, as he sought treatment for a gunshot wound at the Port of Spain General Hospital.

Investigators are still searching for other accomplices.
