Officer charged with corruptly soliciting, receiving money


    A Police Constable attached to the Child Protection Unit at the Chaguanas Police Station has been charged for allegedly soliciting and receiving money.

    Two individuals reported to the Chaguanas Police Station, that on July 24th, they were seated in a Price Plaza car park, when they were approached by a police officer who allegedly said that they were engaging in a criminal act.

    The officer also reportedly advised both individuals that there were other offences reported at the Chaguanas Police Station in which they were suspects.

    He allegedly offered to forego prosecution against them for $5,000.

    According to the report, $2,500 was paid and arrangements were made to hand over the balance on July 26th, with the victim’s cellphone allegedly taken as collateral.

    The officer was subsequently arrested and additional investigations resulted in charges of corruptly soliciting the sum of $5,000 and corruptly receiving the sum of $2,500.
