The acquisition of two Jeep Wranglers is being defended by the ODPM which believes inaccurate comments are being made online.
The vehicles, it says, were donated by the United States government through the embassy in T&T.
Persons on social media have raised issue with the vehicles, complaining that they face the law for modifying their off-roaders.
The ODPM, in a statement on Facebook, says the multi-terrain vehicles, needed for disaster response, met all criteria and were available locally.
It further states that the distributor was prepared to undertake modifications to allow the vehicles to operate in difficult environments.
The statement notes that the T&T Off-Roaders Club was consulted before a decision was made and talks are continuing to have the club involved in disaster response.
The ODPM says it is working with the US Embassy to acquire other high-water vehicles and an official handover ceremony is being planned.
