A number of nurses at the Port of Spain General Hospital are in quarantine, after dealing with a patient who subsequently tested positive for COVID-19.

According to the NWRHA, the patient was immediately transferred into the parallel healthcare system at the Couva Hospital after receiving the positive result.

The area was sanitized and several NWRHA employees, including 20 registered nurses, were swabbed and placed in quarantine in accordance with the national protocol, pending receipt of their results.

The NWRHA insists that it is appropriately managing its available complement of nursing staff at the hospital, and is taking the necessary measures to protect and support staff, patients and visitors.
