The National Insurance Board should examine its management of the National Insurance Fund, especially as it relates to its investments.
This suggestion comes from Economist Dr Vaalmiki Arjoon, as he commented on the possibility of the retirement age being raised from 60 to 65.
Finance Minister Colm Imbert said yesterday that this was a step to be explored in a bid maintain the integrity of the Fund, since expenditure on benefits was now exceeding contributions.
Dr Arjoon believes the way the Fund is invested could help maximize its returns.
Dr Arjoon says raising the retirement age could also boost productivity.
