The latest update from the National Hurricane Centre about an approaching tropical wave is that the system has become better organized.

Shortly before 11am today, the NHC said the wave is located several hundred miles east of the Windward Islands, including T&T.

Additional development is expected, and a tropical depression is likely to form within the next few days.

It says heavy rainfall and gusty winds could affect the islands beginning on Wednesday.

Formation chance through 48 hours is now at 40% and through five days is now at 70%.

Locally, the Met Service says it is continuing to monitor the system and will issue an update at 6pm today or earlier if needed.
