A non-profit organization has written to the President, urging her to postpone assenting to the marijuana decriminalization legislation.

The Dangerous Drug Amendment Act 2019 is set to be proclaimed on Monday, allowing for the possession and use of small amounts of marijuana.

However Rebuild TT believes the law will cause mayhem if implemented immediately.

The organization points out that legislation for the establishment of a Cannabis Licensing Authority has not yet been passed in Parliament.

This, it adds, means that weed bought after Monday will come from illicit drug pushers, since technically there is still no LEGAL source.

The NGO is also concerned there is no way of prosecuting motorists believed to be driving under the influence of marijuana.
