New measures announced as COVID-19 infections rise

A number of new measures have been announced, as T&T grapples with an increasing number of COVID-19 infections and fatalities.

These will come into effect at midnight tonight, and will remain in effect until May 16th.

The announcement was made by Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh during today’s Health Ministry briefing.

Measures previously announced, such as the closure of beaches, will also continue until May 16th.

Also speaking during today’s briefing was newly appointed National Security Minister Fitzgerald Hinds, who warned that the measures will be implemented.

Minister Deyalsingh meanwhile dismissed the notion that the latest spike was to be blamed on Venezuelans entering the country illegally.
