The Social Development Ministry has distributed 107 grants under its National Social Development Programme.
The grants reportedly amount to “a maximum of $15,000 for materials” and the Ministry says victims of natural and man-made disasters resulting from flood or fire were among the recipients.
The Ministry adds that the 107 grants amounted to $1,482,015.
At a distribution ceremony today, Minister Donna Cox expressed the hope that such intervention would contribute towards the eradication of poverty in T&T.
She added that the funding would facilitate the improvement of the physical conditions of homes, be it through minor structural repairs, improvement to sanitary plumbing, and electrical wiring installations or upgrades.
The applicants reportedly had to undergo a Standard Means Test and also have authorization to make repairs to the property.
