Two Government ministers are being urged to supply more information about the status of the FSO Nabarima vessel.

Chaguanas West MP Dinesh Rambally has written to Energy Minister Franklin Khan and Foreign Affairs Minister Dr. Amery Browne following their assurance that the Venezuelan vessel does not pose a risk of an oil spill.

According to Mr Rambally, he is representing the fisherfolk in his constituency who depend heavily on the sea to earn their livelihood and feed their families.

Among the information being requested are: T&T’s readiness to deal with a spill, whether compensation will be available to fisherfolk if a spill occurs and what are the financial arrangements between T&T and Venezuela for the cleanup of waters between the countries.

Mr Rambally warns that fisherfolk are ready to engage in any lawful action if it becomes necessary.
