MP Indarsingh questions state’s warning of reclaiming lands from ex-Caroni workers

A UNC MP is questioning a warning given to ex-Caroni workers that government would reclaim their lands if they do not cultivate them.

A newspaper article quotes Agriculture Minister Clarence Rambharat as saying the state would redistribute the leased two-acre parcels of agricultural lands.

However, Couva South MP Rudranath Indarsingh says these lands were the result of a legally binding arrangement registered in the Industrial Court.

He believes the Minister is “out of place” and showing scant regard for the law and collective bargaining.
