Government’s response to recent reports of school violence is “reactive” according to the Tabaquite MP.

Anita Haynes today issued a media release addressing yesterday’s revelation by Minister in the Ministry of Education Lisa Morris-Julian of the creation of a national school infraction rubric.

In Parliament, the Minister stated that a report is expected at the end of the month from three multidisciplinary teams looking at school discipline, positive reinforcement and criteria for high risk schools.

Following this report, the draft rubric will be discussed with stakeholders and sent to Cabinet for consideration.

However, MP Haynes says this response is disappointing and suggests the introduction of age-appropriate interventions targeting conflict resolution and gender studies.
