MP Charles: Law enforcement upgrades needed before more legislation

Government is being urged to upgrade the various arms of law enforcement before passing new crime fighting legislation.

Opposition MP Rodney Charles says T&T has an under resourced Forensics Science Centre, an understaffed DPP office, a slow moving judiciary and overcrowded prisons.

He believes several recently passed pieces of legislation have produced no measurable impact on crime since the systems needed to enforce these laws are either not in effect or under-resourced.

Mr Charles warns that more and more legislation will not solve the issue of crime.
