Opposition MP Dr. Rai Ragbir is calling on the Government to implement a robust action-plan designed for a more resilient healthcare system towards any future epidemic or pandemic.
He says the policy must have widespread dissemination of information and education to the population, as facilities must become centers of public learning and not just places where illnesses are treated.
This, as Dr. Ragbir says empirical data suggests that most people dying from COVID-19 have one or more chronic diseases that are preventable with a healthy lifestyle, and preventative measures.
The MP, who is a medical doctor, insists that Government creates a reserve of health care workers, pharmacists, care assistants, and other professionals, who can be mobilized to respond in a short time.
Dr. Ragbir says another top priority is storing reserve capacity of supplies such as PPE, and maintaining hospital beds that can be quickly transformed into critical care beds.
On Sunday, T&T joined the United Nations in observing the International Day of Epidemic Preparedness.
