An MP is blaming “PNM incompetence” for a reported rise in chicken prices.
In a media release, Couva North MP Ravi Ratiram claims several pluck shops have been issued with purchasing quotas – a move he attributes to a shortfall of supply of poultry.
He says this is due to several reasons including a lack of concern by government for expanding the poultry sector from a production standpoint.
MP Ratiram says inefficient incentives, lack of development in alternative feedstock and foreign exchange availability problems are also to blame.
He says poultry farming requires a complete rethinking of the approach and is calling for the development of a commodity-based system at the national level.
