More members of the UNC have thrown their full support behind Kamla Persad-Bissessar as UNC and Opposition Leade.
This follows calls by some for her to step down following Monday’s General Election.
Among those expressing confidence in Mrs Persad-Bissessar are the MPs Elect for Barataria/San Juan – Saddam Hosein, Pointe-a-Pierre – David Lee, Princes Town – Barry Padarath, Caroni East – Dr. Rishad Seecheran, Naparima – Rodney Charles, Oropouche West – Dave Tancoo, and St Augustine – Kadijah Ameen.
She has also been endorsed by Dr Roodal Moonilal who won the Oropouche East seat.
In a statement he said: “The Executive (of Oropouche East) and Member of Parliament elect warmly endorse Ms. Persad-Bissessar as the UNC’s Political Leader and as Trinidad and Tobago’s Opposition Leader. She is undoubtedly the most qualified and publicly favoured person currently engaged in national service. We thank her for her ongoing sterling national leadership and look forward to the country continuing to benefit from her vast knowledge and experience.”
Yesterday as well, UNC PRO Anita Haynes stated that the party continued to have full confidence in Mrs. Persad-Bissessar as political leader.
