The Health Ministry is advising of a recall by Tanimura & Antle of its packaged single head romaine lettuce.
The recall is being done due to possible contamination with E. Coli, which may cause a diarrheal illness.
The Ministry says while there are no reported cases in T&T of persons consuming romaine lettuce and becoming ill, an advisory is being issues out of an abundance of caution.
It adds that until clearance is provided, supermarkets, restaurants and wholesalers should not offer for sale (in any form), romaine lettuce from the Tanimura & Antle brand that has a “packed on” date of 10/15/2020 or 10/16/2020.
Consumers are advised:
- If the label says “Tanimura & Antle”, and there is a “packed on date” of 10/15/2020 or 10/16/2020, don’t eat the lettuce and discard/return to the place of purchase.
- If the package isn’t labelled, don’t eat the lettuce and discard/ return to the place of purchase.
- If you don’t know if the lettuce is romaine or whether a salad mix or wrap contains romaine, don’t eat the lettuce and discard/ return to the place of purchase.
- Wash and sanitize drawers or shelves in refrigerators where romaine lettuce was stored.
